The Holiday Planner · Taylor Gang Life Fitness

4 days.
Not 4 months.

Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's are four days out of the last four months of the year. You could eat your heart out on those four days and not gain a pound. It's what you do in between that matters. Taylor

Why January always feels like starting over

3 holiday traps

None of them are about willpower. They're about the plan you were handed.

01

All or nothing

"Why bother now? I'll worry about it in January." Every party becomes another reason to wait.

02

1,200 calories

When new clients send me their day, it's usually around 1,200 calories. There's nowhere left to cut from there. We build first, then cut.

03

Guilt cardio

"I ate it, so I have to burn it off." Skip the two hours on the treadmill. Lift heavy the next day instead.

Step 1

Your calendar

Pick your 4

Your 4 holidays are already circled. Halloween was Day 1. Add every party and event between now and New Year's. If one matters more to you than a holiday, swap it in. Just keep it to 4.

4 of 4 circled

Circled = enjoy it fully, no tracking. Everything else gets the in-between plan below.

Step 2

The days that decide January

Plan the in-between

Two jobs here. A plan for every event you didn't circle, and the simple basics you repeat on every normal day.

At any event you didn't circle

  1. Eat breakfastDon't save up calories. Arriving starving is how the night gets away from you.
  2. Protein firstBuild your plate around the turkey, the chicken, the shrimp. Then add the sides you love.
  3. One drink, on purposePick the one you actually want. You don't need one at every event.
  4. The dessert you actually wantOne real slice. Not a sample of everything on the table.
  5. Plan the morning afterA heavy lift, not a punishment run. It's in Step 3.

I cooked for families in Malibu for years. The women who ate the least at dinner were the ones in the pantry at midnight.

Your everyday non-negotiables

Check off today

0 of 7 today. Repeat the basics more often than not.

Step 3

The morning after

The day-after lift

The day after a big meal isn't a punishment day. It's your strongest day of the week. Put that energy into building your glutes.

  • Hip thrustBarbell or Smith machine. Squeeze hard at the top.
    4 x 8
  • Romanian deadliftHips back, soft knees, feel the hamstrings.
    4 x 8
  • Split squatDumbbells at your sides. 8 each leg.
    4 x 8

Rest about 90 seconds between sets. Go heavy enough that the last 2 reps are hard.

Celebrate without guilt

6 holiday rules

01

Enjoy the celebration

Eat the food you love, be with your people, be present.

02

Don't save up calories

Eat normal meals before a party. Never arrive starving.

03

Skip punishment workouts

Movement isn't payback for dessert. Lift heavy the next day.

04

Back to normal next morning

No detox, no cleanse, no skipped meals. Just your routine.

05

Pick 4, not 10

Four days you enjoy fully. Everything else gets a plan.

06

Measure more than weight

Energy, strength, sleep, confidence and consistency all count.

A celebration is not a setback.

Step 4

Finish strong

Your 12-week tracker

Every week, write down one win and one habit you're still practicing. This is how you walk into the new year already moving, instead of starting over.
